What's Sobu and Narita line?

Sobu@main line is most old railway in Chiba prefecture.

This route opened from Ichikawa to Sakura in December 1894 by Sobu Railway at that time.
The Narita Line starts in 1897 when the then Narita Railway opened a railway from Sakura to Narita, connected to Sobu Railway.

The purpose was mainly as a means of transportation of visitors to Naritasan Shinshoji Temple.
After that, from Narita to Sawara it has been stretched sequentially by 1900, and the Abiko branch line to Abiko also opened at the same time.
Sobu Railway and Narita Railway were nationalized, then became National Railways Soubu Main Line and Narita Line.
It has served as worshipers of Naritasan Shinshoji Temple and local transportation, and since 1978 Narita Airport opened, it begin to play a role as airport access.
By the privatization of the National Railways in 1987, the operation changed to JR East.
In 1991 a new route from Narita station to Narita airport opened and Narita Express started operation.

Today, centering on Narita Airport access such as Narita Express and Rapid-transit train, Express trains connecting Tokyo and Choshi via Sobu main line, Local trains of Sobu main line connecting Chiba to Sakura, Naruto and Choshi, Local train of Narita line connecting Chiba to Sakura, Narita, Sawara and Choshi.


Chiba Sta.

Chiba City is the central city of Chiba Prefecture, Chiba Station is its representative station in Chiba City.
To this station are JR lines to Chiba prefecture regions and Tokyo, and monorail connecting various places in the city.
Until the relocation in 1963 there was a this station near the present Higashi-Chiba station.

Sakura Sta.

Sakura city is a town which prospered as the castle town of the Sakura clan during the Edo period.
At this station, it is divided into Narita line and Sobu main line.

Narita Sta.

Narita station is the central station of Narita city which is prosperous Naritasan-Shinshoji Temple's temple town and Narita Airport.
At this station, it is divided into three lines: railway to Sawara, Choshi, railway to Narita airport, and railway to Abiko, Ueno.

From Chiba to Choshi(Via Narita Line)
Driving section Chiba to Sawara 56.1km(35mile)
Series 209 4cars

It is an Local train leaving Chiba station before noon, and it is crowded till the Yotsukaido.
This train leaves after passing the Narita Express.
There is little leisure time to go to Narita station, but Narita Eastern is plentiful hours of leisure and you are required to drive slowly.
The time required from Chiba to Sawara is 63 minutes, and the station with a long stopping time is about 1 minute 30 seconds at Narita station.

Series 209 EMU

Series 209 EMU is the main train of Sobu line and Narita line, Kashima line Local Service.
It appeared as a car in Keihin Tohoku Line in 1993 but due to the introduction of new models, it was diverted to each route in Chiba prefecture from 2010.

The 209 series has 4-car train and 6 car train.

Series 211 EMU

Ayame means Iris in japanese.
This train is extraordinary Increase train, for Sawara and Itako's Iris Festival(Ayame-Matsuri).
It is operated Saturday and Sunday of june every year.
This train used old-fashioned express 183 series EMU in 2007.

Series 183 EMU

The 183 series EMU was a vehicle developed by JNR (then) in 1972, prototype appeared in electrification opening in Boso area.
In 1975, type1000 appeared as cold / snow resistant specifications.
